Economics is a Big Mac

Business is war. People are our target. Sounds familiar? According to Umair Haque these are the rules that forged our world economics and brought us a global recession… and also a 5-blade razor and the Bic Mac. He makes a public call for a constructive capitalism in a recent conference talk at the Daytona Sessions:

While being a little bit vague, Umair takes quite a well shot at many Sun Tzu and Von Clausewitz inspired industry giants such as Microsoft or the U.S. car industry. Welcome to the age of interaction, ladies and gentlemen, when:

  • Exploitation has to become Renewal
  • Command has to become Democracy
  • War has to become Peace
  • Domination has to become Equity
  • Value has to become Meaning

But check out the video above. Umair pulls out some nice (although not surprisingly new) examples of todays uprising companies, who shake up their respective industries. Definitely worth a watch!

10000 hours… huh?

Bestseller author Malcom Gladwell came up with a new interesting book on the origin of success. Surprise, surprise: it takes a lot of practice…10000 hours at least to be precise - across all fields that is. That’s roughly 10 years *yay*. Bur it also takes the right environment. Check out the video below:

Putting the FUN in functional

I found this one while cleaning out my mailbox at work. A bit older, but still up-to-date: It’s a very nice presentation by Amy Jo Kim on how game tactics and mechanisms can help your serious application to become more fun :)

Sooocial Gooogle?

Google seems to experiment with Web 2.0 patterns within their search results. Michael had an article over at Techcruch these days on this issue, plus this really cool video:

What can I say: Search engine meets Digg meets Del.icio.us meets Wiki. Looks a tiiiny little bit like Wikia Search to me. And somehow I really have trouble to believe that the big G will diminish the power of its omnipotent algorithm and ferocious pagerank. But time will tell… :)
