Question: Why is it so hard to put a volume control into ads and/or microsites? Especially if you use music or voice over extensively, this would be a highly appreciated feature.

Example? There are lots and lots! Take the brand new Coke Olympics micosite for instance. Or the visually awesome Nokia N96 Limited Ed. campaign. No volume control… whereever.
And no, a mute button is not enough! And no, I dont want to change my desktop settings for each website I visit either. It’s called usability, duh! Ah BTW, every thiny Youtube sniplet has it… just think about it ![]()

So, this made the shortlist in Cannes 2008? Uhm… may i ask WHY? Because they faked a videoplayer that annoys me because I can’t drag the status bar as wished? Or because i can’t turn off the noise? Or because I have to wait forever to see something semi-useful (trying to avoid the word “creative” here) happen?
Hello Saatchi? This is NOT TV! At least they had the decency to add a start button instead of autoplaying that whole thing…

See what Flash can do… as far as visual screen experience is concerned. I just love that kinda stuff: massive in-game video as a key visual + great placement (wallpaper + leaderboard) = nice execution by EA and Lequip!

Aaaah… what wouldn’t we do for some cleavage?
I read an article on German news authority Heise recently on how spammers use p0rn to get new gmail-accounts (et al.). Every sign-up there is secured by a captcha, which makes the mass-setup of new email-addresses nearly impossible…. at least for machines… well at least for most of them.
So here is the trick: Crowdsource the process to horny men. It’s cheap and easy. Just show some random p0rn pic and ask kindly to solve a captcha to see the next. (Think trumpet horn here.) Clever suns of a gun… huh?

Actually, I am not a big fan of Radiohead, but I like their approach to new things. For their lastest video House of Cards (Googtube or high quality download) they substituted the big lights-camera-action-showcase for a bunch of engineers and 3D scanners. The outcome is pretty cool IMHO. Here is the very neat making of:
This may still look very… uhm… artsy. But it’s definitely a glimpse of the future!

Google seems to experiment with Web 2.0 patterns within their search results. Michael had an article over at Techcruch these days on this issue, plus this really cool video:
What can I say: Search engine meets Digg meets Del.icio.us meets Wiki. Looks a tiiiny little bit like Wikia Search to me. And somehow I really have trouble to believe that the big G will diminish the power of its omnipotent algorithm and ferocious pagerank. But time will tell… ![]()

Ever wondered what successful viral videos have in common? Mike Laurie sat down and examined 21 patterns of very viral videos on the GoogTube in his article:
